
Larsson Wins Silver Medal at World Junior Championships

Buffalo, NY. - Tri-City Storm goalie Filip Larsson won a Silver Medal with Sweden at the 2018 World Junior Championship in Buffalo, NY earlier this week. Sweden fell to Canada 3-1 in the Gold Medal game on Friday night at the KeyBank Center in front of a crowd of 17,544. Larsson was the only active USHL player to win a medal in this year's competition. Larsson was one of only four active USHL players to be selected to the event this year.
Filip Larsson, 19, of Stockholm, Sweden currently leads the USHL in several goaltending statistical categories and has appeared in 18 games with the Tri-City Storm this season. Larsson has posted a 14-4 record and currently leads the USHL in Goals Against Average (GAA), Save Percentage, and Shutouts. He has posted a 1.45 GAA and a .946 save percentage in his first 18 starts. Larsson also has a league leading 5 shutouts for the Storm this season.
Larsson appeared in one game for Sweden during the tournament, stopping 20 of 22 shots in a 7-2 Sweden win over Switzerland during the preliminary round.
"The tournament was a great experience for me and it was a huge honor to represent my country on such a big stage. It was so much fun to play in our preliminary round game against Switzerland and it was nice to put up a win in my only start. I worked with these guys in the summer and practicing with them is always a great experience. Larsson announced his commitment to the University of Denver on December 12th. He was selected by the Tri-City Storm 8th overall in the 2017 USHL draft. Filip Larsson was also selected 167th overall in the 6th round of the 2016 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings.
