Flying Squirrels Sweep Baysox

Bowie, Md. - The Baysox offensive slump continued Sunday afternoon as Bowie fell to Richmond 6-2, allowing the Flying Squirrels to complete the three-game sweep. The Baysox have now lost a season-high five games in a row and scored just four runs during the three-game sweep.

Richmond jumped out to another 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning against Baysox starter Jake Pettit. Kelby Tomlinson hit a lead off single to right field and Jarret Parker then reached on a missed catch error by first baseman Christian Walker. Angel Villalona followed with a three-run blast of the Baysox videoboard in left-center field to give the Flying Squirrels the lead.

The Baysox got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning against Richmond starter Kyle Crick. Ronald Bermudez drew a lead off walk, made it all the way to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a Dariel Alvarez groundout to make the score 3-1.

Parker put the Flying Squirrels up 4-1 with a solo home run to right field in the top of the fifth inning.

The Flying Squirrels added to the lead in the top of the seventh inning against Baysox reliever Marcel Prado. Tyler LaTorre drew a lead off walk and moved to second base on a Tyler Graham single to left field. Tomlinson reached on a force out at second base that moved LaTorre to third base where he scored on a wild pitch. Tomlinson moved to third base on a Parker groundout and he scored on another wild pitch to give Richmond a 6-1 lead.

Christian Walker cut into the Richmond lead with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning against reliever Kelvin Marte to make the score 6-2.

Pettit pitched six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out five in the loss. Prado pitched one inning and allowed two runs on one hit while walking one and striking out one. Baysox reliever Juan Morillo pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Baysox, striking out one batter. Reliever Oliver Drake pitched a scoreless ninth inning, walking two batters and striking out one.

Crick picked up the win for Richmond, pitching five and one-third innings and allowing one run on two hits while striking out six and walking two.

After an off day Monday, LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (1-2, 4.73) takes the mound for the Baysox Tuesday as the team plays the first game in a three game road series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. He will be opposed by RHP Aaron Sanchez (1-4, 4.14).

After an off day Monday, the Baysox depart for New Hampshire Tuesday, June 3 for a six game road trip with another stop in Portland. The Baysox return home Tuesday, June 10 for a six-game homestand.
