Richmond got the Akron right-hander for three straight hits and a run in the second, but Leftwich settled in and finished his outing without any more damage. Leftwich tossed three innings allowing just the one run while striking out three. Tommy Mace followed with 4.1 innings allowing two runs while striking out five. Bradley Hanner tossed a scoreless 2.2 innings with three strikeouts. Trey Benton allowed three runs (one earned) over an inning pitched.
