Florida gets everblasted by Lynx on Thursday, 7-1
January 10, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
Maybe it is just Aaron Slattengren's week? Two nights after posting a four-point night in a 6-4 win over Charlotte, Lynx forward #19 Aaron Slattengren posted his second straight four-point night, including a hat-trick in a 7-1 dismantling of the Florida Everblades on Thursday in Augusta. The win moved Augusta into sole possession of 3rd place in the South Division, one point ahead of South Carolina and two points ahead of Florida. The key moment of the game however, may have come early in the 1st period as the Lynx killed off a 5 on 3 power play, led by the goaltender #30 Bobby Goepfert.
After that the Lynx responded with Slattengren's first of the night with assist to #17 Jeremy Schenderling and #2 Jason Platt. In the 2nd period, the Lynx opened the floodgates. #9 Louis Goulet made it 2-0 with a great tip-in goal on a pass from Slattengren and #15 Eric Lundberg. Then, Slattengren scored back-to-back goals to make it 4-0, the first on a 5 on 3 power play with assists to #3 Brian Yandle and #12 Ryan Dingle, and the second with assists to linemates Goulet and Schenderling.
The Lynx didn't let up in the 3rd period as #16 Chase Watson made it 5-0, blasting home a slapshot from the left wing that beat Everblades goaltender Justin Peters, with assists to Yandle and newcomer #10 Geoff Peters. Florida would break the shutout bid of Goepfert with a goal after a scramble in front, but it would be all the Lynx would allow. #21 Bobby Bolt made it 6-1 with a shorthanded, breakaway goal after a great pass from #5 Ken Scuderi.
Finally, Watson would score his 2nd goal of the night to make it 7-1, as he banked in a shot off of former NHL defenseman Brad Brown with an assist to #7 James Brannigan on the power play. The Lynx stayed very disciplined, especially late as the game became more lopsided. The Lynx power play got the best of the league's best penalty kill in the Everblades going 3 for 11 on the man-advantage, while Florida was 0 for 5 on their power plays. The same two teams will lock horns on Friday in Augusta at 7:35pm in what is sure to be a exciting 2nd game of the series.
