Charlotte Checkers News Release

Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers started a six game home-stand in fine fashion defeating the Pensacola Ice Pilots, 6-0.

The Checkers got off to a great start after defenseman, Jared Nightingale fired a shot on goaltender, Cam Ellsworth and the rebound hit the body of Ryan Murphy and bounced in the net at 1:31 to give Charlotte a 1-0 lead. Later, it was Chris Capraro scoring on the power play after one-timing a cross ice pass from Mike Bayrack into the net at 7:28. The Checkers would go ahead 3-0 shorthanded when a shot from the right wing by Murphy was stopped by Ellsworth but the rebound was slammed in by Dusty Jamieson at 12:27.

In the middle frame, Murphy would tally his second goal of the game after he picked up the rebound from a Ryan Constant point shot and flipped the puck over the shoulder of Ellsworth at 2:10 giving Charlotte a 4-0 lead.

In the final period, Charlotte would get goals from Bellefeuille and Jamieson to extend their lead to 6-0 and secure the victory over the Ice Pilots.

Notes: Checkers goaltender, Chris Holt turned aside all 34 shots he faced...Ellsworth allowed six goals on 32 shots...The Checkers scored two power play goals on five chances but the Ice Pilots were unsuccessful on all five of their chances.
