
Flint wins two of four last week

Week In Review - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League captured four of a possible eight pints in league play last week. On Monday, March 21, 2005, the Generals defeated the Kansas City Outlaws 2-1 in a shootout at Kemper Arena. Leo Thomas (9) scored Flint's goal in regulation. Jason Selleke scored the game-deciding goal in the ninth round of the shootout. Goaltender Nathan Grobins stopped 29 of 30 shots for the victory. Flint returned home on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 and lost to the Motor City Mechanics 4-1. Mike Kinnie (35) scored the lone goal for Flint. Friday, March 25, 2005 was a different story as the Generals exploded for their highest goal production of the season with a 9-2 pounding of the visiting Kansas City Outlaws. John DiPace lead the charge with his first career hat trick and one assist, Tom Ditzer scored twice, Kevin Miller (1), Vaclav Zavoral (1), Leo Thomas (10) and Rob Valicevic (36) accounted for the other Flint goals. Goaltender Nathan Grobins turned aside 27 of 29 shots. On Saturday, March 26, 2005, the Generals dropped a tought 3-2 decision against the visiting Port Huron Beacons. Bobby Reynolds (26) and Jason Woolley (4) scored the Flint goals.
Sherwood/UHL Player of the Week Nominee â Center Leo Thomas is our nominee for the Sherwood/UHL Player of the Week ending March 27, 2005. In four games, Thomas had two goals and three assists for five points.
Southern Sports Supply/UHL Goaltender of the Week Nominee - Nathan Grobins is our nominee for the Southern Sports Supply/UHL Goaltender of the Week ending March 27, 2005. Grobins posted a record of 2-2 last week stopping 117 of 126 shots with a save percentage of .928.

This is the final meeting of the regular season against the Mechanics. Motor City is on a four-game winning streak and have won nine of their last ten games. Leading scores are center Blair Manning (16g, 53a, 69 pts.) and right wing Joe Burton (30g, 21a, 51 pts.) The Mechanics posted four consecutive road victories last week in Flint (4-1) on Wednesday night, at Adirondack (5-2) on Friday night, at Danbury (3-0) on Saturday night, and at Elmira (4-1) on Sunday afternoon. This weekend, Motor City hosts Elmira on Friday night, Fort Wayne on Saturday and Elmira on Sunday afternoon.

Rockford Icehogs (43-21-9, 95 pts.) First Place tie, Western Division, Tied for fourth overall.
This is the final game of the regular season against the Icehogs whom have qualified for the Colonial Cup Playoffs. Leading scorers are forward, J.F. Dufour (24g, 51a, 75 pts.), left wing J.C. Ruid (36g, 31a, 67 pts.) and center Olivier Proulx (24g, 42a, 66 pts.) Right wing, Eric Labelle (386) is the league leader in penalty minutes. Goaltender Michel Robinson has appeared in sixty games posting a record of 31-18-9 with a goals against average of 2.47. The Icehogs are 0-1-2 in their last three games. Rockford lost in shootouts to the visiting Quad City Mallards (4-3) last Thursday night and at Fort Wayne (3-2) on Friday night. The Icehogs wrapped up the weekend with a 6-4 loss at Kalamazoo on Saturday night. This week, Rockford visits Quad City on Wednesday night before hosting the Generals on Friday night, then it's off to Port Huron on Saturday night and Muskegon on Sunday afternoon to complete the weekend.

Saturday is the final regular season meeting against the Frostbite, whom have qualified for the Colonial Cup Playoffs. Leading scorers are left wing Hugo Belanger (30g, 64a, 94 pts.). and Greg Koehler (36g, 53a, 89 pts.). Left wing, Scott Page (221) leads the Frosbite in penalty minutes. Adirondack won two of three games last week. The Frosbite defeated the visiting Muskegon Fury (5-1) on Wednesday night and lost to the visiting Motor City Mechanics (5-2) on Friday. Adirondack wrapped up their weekend with a 5-2 victory over the visiting Elmira Jackals on Saturday. This week, the Frosbite hosts the Danbury Trashers on Wednesday before heading west for three weekend road games at Port Huron on Friday night, in Flint on Saturday and on to Fort Wayne for a Sunday afternoon contest.

Record: (32-30-11, 75 pts.) Third Place, Central Division. Ninth Place Overall.
Leading scorers: Bobby Reynolds, (26g, 66a, 92 pts.), Rob Valicevic (36g, 50a, 86 pts.) and Mike Kinnie (35g, 41a, 76pts.) Penalty minutes leader is Kam White (222). Reynolds is currently second overall in league scoring with 92 points trailing the league leader, Adirondack's Hugo Belanger by only two points. Valicevic is seventh overall in league scoring and is only five points out of third place in the overall scoring race. Right wing, Mike Kinnie is second overall in rookie scoring, two points behind Quad City's Mike Kompon (32g, 46a, 78 pts). Kinnie and Kompon will battle for the rookie scoring title as the next closest is Adirondack's Ryan Bennett with 56 points. Flint is among the league leaders in special teams play. On the power play, the Generals are 68-385 scoring at 17.7 percent good for third overall in the league. In penalty killing, Flint is 298-351 allowing 53 power play goals killing penalties at 84.9 percent. That's good for fourth overall in the United Hockey League.
