Port Huron Flags News Release
In Brief
· 3/23: The First Matinee Game
The Beacons started the scoring off at 16:14 of the second period when Aaron Brand (26) buried a rebound after a mad scramble in front of the net. Jeff Goldie (14, 4 as a Beacon) and Shayne Tomlinson (13) tallied the assists on the lone Beacon goal. The second period ended with the Beacons having the 1-0 lead. The Beacons when leading after two periods are an outstanding 21-2-1 heading into the third. However, that would change this afternoon as the Wings tallied two power play goals on back-to-back opportunities as well as an empty netter to give the Wings a 4-1 victory. Stu Dunn replaced Kory Cooper just 3:10 into the game and made 27 saves on 31 shots.
· 3/25: Final Meeting with the Real Wings
After being down 2-0 after one period, the Beacons responded on the power play when Jeff Goldie (18, 4 as a Beacon) slid one past Wings Goaltender, Chad Alban. Aaron Brand (45) and Rico Fatticci (15) tallied the assists on the goal to cut the lead in half. The Beacons would score another goal in the period as newcomer, Gray Shaneberger (14, 1 as a Beacon) fired a wrist shot to the top left corner. Shaneberger was released by the Wings last week and was picked up just before the March 23rd game versus the Wings. Stu Dunn made 27 saves on 32 shots for the Beacons.
· 3/26: Final visit to Flint-town
In what looked like a playoff game both teams were staying true to their systems and would not relinquish the first goal of the game. It took almost two full periods before either team scored, however, it was the Beacons who would score first as Joey Sewell (25) beat Flint Goaltender, Nathan Grobins to take the 1-0 lead into the third period. Trevor Edwards (21) and Malcolm MacMillan (23) tallied the assists. In the third both teams scored twice. It was Edwards (18) shorthanded and David Beauregard (41) who would score the game winning goal. Stu Dunn made 17 saves on 19 shots for his 15th win of the year.
· 3/27: Otters come into McMorran for the Final visit
Each team traded goals in the first two periods of play, thus heading into the third period tied at one. David Beauregard (42) tallied another goal to add to his league leading total, adding the assists were newcomer Gray Shaneberger (13, 2 as a Beacon) and Rico Fatticci (16). In the third period it was Gabriel Proulx (12) who would net the tying goal with 5:23 left in the game. Adding the assists were Trevor Edwards (22) and Jeff Goldie (16, 6 as a Beacon). Stu Dunn made the start in net and made 28 saves on 30 shots, including three saves on five shots in the shootout. Jeff Goldie was the lone goal scorer in the shootout round for the Beacons.
