Kalamazoo's Luciuk and Motor City's Branch earn weekly honors

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Kalamazoo Wings center/left wing Andrew Luciuk has been named Sher-Wood Player of the Week and Motor City Mechanics goaltender Rod Branch has been named Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 27, 2005

Luciuk finished the week with nine points (3g, 6a) and a plus-five rating in three games. He contributed to each of Kalamazoo's goals (1g, 3a) in Wednesday's 4-1 win at Port Huron. On Friday, he added two assists in the 5-2 victory vs. Port Huron. During Saturday's 6-4 win vs. Rockford, Luciuk notched two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist for his third multi-point game of the week. The 28-year-old Prince George, Alberta native is currently riding a four-game point streak (4g, 6a).

Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Adirondack center David Burgess, Danbury forward Doug Christiansen, Elmira defenseman George Pujacs, Flint center Leo Thomas, Fort Wayne center Tom Nelson, Kansas City left wing Jason Ruff, Missouri right wing Jamal Mayers, Motor City center Blair Manning, Muskegon left wing Brant Blackned, Port Huron left wing Jeff Goldie, Quad City forward Mike Kompon, Richmond right wing David Brosseau, and Rockford center Miguel Lafleche.

Branch finished the week with a 4-0-0 record, a 1.00 GAA, a .966 save percentage, and one shutout. He made 20 saves and allowed only one goal in the 4-1 win vs. Flint on Wednesday. On Friday vs. Adirondack, he made 25 saves to earn the 5-2 victory. Branch stopped all 32 Danbury shots on Saturday during Motor City's 3-0 win to record his first shutout this season and the first shutout in Mechanics' history. On Sunday, he made 35 saves in the 4-1 victory at Elmira to notch his fourth consecutive win. The 29-year-old Fort St. John, British Columbia native is currently second in the league in minutes played (3,266) and saves (1,617).
