Flash Clinch Playoff Spot Despite Loss to Toros

April 3, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Utah Flash News Release

Austin, TX - The Austin Toros snapped Utah's five-game win streak at the Austin Convention Center in their final regular game of the season, 104-94. Despite the loss the Utah Flash clinched a playoff spot thanks to an Erie BayHawks win over the Maine Redclaws.

The Flash were looking for their sixth straight win, which would have moved them up to the fifth seed in the NBA D-League Playoffs. The Toros with a win tonight or a loss from Sioux Falls would secure the third seed in the playoffs allowing them to choose who to face in the Playoffs.

Austin, without a post presence, trailed early in the game. An 8-4 run that ended the first quarter gave the Toros the lead, 26-23.

At intermission both teams were tied at 49. Curtis Jerrells led all with 16 points.

After the break, the Toros began to pull away with a combined effort from five players who contributed at least two baskets a piece. Lewis Clinch's 7-0 run allowed for the Toros largest lead, 69-57. Heading in to the fourth quarter, the Toros kept the lead, 82-74.

Gabe Pruitt's layup with 5:29 left in the game shortened the Toros lead to three. Squeaky Johnson's baseline jumper then started a Toros run that helped secure the win. Utah sent Austin to the line six times in the final 3:24 of the game, succeeding on five shots.

Eddie Basden tied his season-high with 20 points. Johnson added 16 off the bench and Marcus Williams contributed 15 points.

Coming off the bench, Gabe Pruitt led the Flash with 19 points. Four others scored in double-figures: Bennet Davis (16), Andre Ingram (15), Brian Hamilton (12), and Orien Green (12).

The 2010 Playoff schedule will be released following the final D-League game on Sunday evening. For Flash playoff ticket information, call (801) 434-HOOP or visit UtahFlash.com.
