Flames Top Bulldogs 5-4 in OT

HAMILTON, ONT. - Hamilton Bulldogs forward Daniel Carr became the first 'Dogs 20-goal scorer in three seasons when he tied the game 4-4 with less than three minutes to play on Wednesday night at FirstOntario Centre, but Adirondack Flames forward Taylor Vause scored just over five minutes into overtime to lift Adirondack (28-21-4-1) past Hamilton (28-21-9-0) 5-4.

Carr became Hamilton's first 20-goal scorer since forward Andreas Engqvist achieved the feat during the 2011-12 season.

Flames forward Garnet Hathaway opened the scoring at 2:29 of the first period with a wrist shot that beat 'Dogs goaltender Mike Condon high glove side, assisted by forwards Max Reinhart and David Wolf.

Bulldogs forward Eric Tangradi evened the score 49 seconds in to the second period, finding a bouncing puck and scoring his ninth goal of the season on the power play, assisted by forwards Drayson Bowman and T.J. Hensick.

At 2:57 of the second period, Bowman was left wide open in front of the net on the power play and he buried his 12th goal of the season, assisted by Tangradi and Hensick.

Flames defenceman Mark Cundari tied the game for the Flames on a partial breakaway at 6:48 of the second period. Forward Mathieu Tousignant was credited with an assist on the play.

Less than five minutes later, Reinhart tipped in a point shot from defenceman Nolan Yonkman to make it a 3-2 game. Vause had a second assist on the goal.

At 17:40 of the second period, Reinhart fired a wrist shot that beat Condon for his second goal of the game to increase the Flames' lead to 4-2. Hathaway recorded the assist on the play.

Bulldogs forward Gabriel Dumont scored his 16th goal of the season to bring the 'Dogs within one, burying a rebound past Flames goaltender Brad Thiessen at 11:27 of the third period. Forwards Michael Bournival and Christian Thomas had assists on the play.

Carr tied the game at 17:17 of the third, picking up a rebound and scoring his team-leading 20th goal of the season. Carr's goal was assisted by forwards Charles Hudon and Sven Andrighetto.

At 5:19 of overtime, Vause beat Condon with a wrist shot through traffic. Wolf recorded an assist on the 3-on-3 goal.

Condon made 35 saves on 40 shots for the Bulldogs in the loss, while Thiessen stopped 41 of 45 shots faced for the Flames in the win.

Hamilton went 2-for-3 on the power play, while Adirondack was 0-for-4 with a man advantage.
