Admirals Slay Monsters 3-0
March 4, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Cleveland, OH--Goalie Marek Mazanec and a stifling defensive effort led the Milwaukee Admirals to a 3-0 win over the Lake Erie Monsters Wednesday night.
The Admirals held the Monsters to just 16 shots, the fewest allowed by the Admirals this season. Milwaukee fired 31 shots on goal. The win snapped a five-game (0-4-1-0) losing streak for Milwaukee.
Milwaukee broke through for the first goal of the game 55 seconds into the second period. Defenseman Johan Alm grabbed a loose puck at neutral ice and skated on the left win into the Monsters zone. Alm sent a low shot on goal that Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard stopped with his left pad. The rebound went into the slot and Colton Sissons buried it for his 20th goal of the season. Alm recorded the lone assist.
The Ads claimed a 2-0 lead at 8:49 of the second period. The Monsters tried to clear out of the zone, but Ian White held strong at the right point and found Felix Girard all alone in front of Pickard. Girard made a quick spin after receiving the pass and pushed the puck into the net for his fourth goal of the season. It was Girard's first goal since Dec. 21 at Toronto.
Milwaukee's Joe Pendenza scored an empty net, power play goal with 2:04 remaining to close the scoring. It was Pendenza's seventh goal of the season, third on the power play.
Milwaukee returns to the BMO Harris Bradley Center to host Grand Rapids Friday night at 7pm.
