Saint John Flames News Release

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames Vice-President & General Manager Craig Button announced today the appointment of Yvon Vautour as full-time Assistant Coach of the Saint John Flames of the American Hockey League.

The 46 year-old Vautour originally joined the Saint John organization as a volunteer assistant coach in September 2000.

"Yvon's contributions to the organization made him the ideal candidate for this position," stated Button. "He was a key member of our 2001 Calder Cup championship team and is intimately familiar with both our players and our coaching philosophy.

A native of Saint John, Vautour was selected by the New York Islanders (104th overall) in the 1976 NHL Entry Draft. He played a total of 204 NHL games with the Islanders, Colorado Rockies, New Jersey Devils, and Quebec Nordiques before retiring from professional hockey in 1985. After returning to Saint John, he served as a player/coach with the Saint John Vito's Senior Hockey Club and later, head coach of the Saint John Midget AAA Flames. He helped guide the Midget Flames to an appearance in the Air Canada Cup national championships in 1998.

"I am looking forward to having Yvon on our staff on a full-time basis," stated Saint John Head Coach Ron Wilson. "We have enjoyed a great working relationship and I know our Club will benefit from his increased responsibilities. This appointment is very much deserved.

Vautour will begin his new full-time coaching duties this weekend.
