Five Wave FC Players Called up to National Teams for October International Window

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Five San Diego Wave Fútbol Club players were called up to their respective national teams for friendlies in the October international window. Midfielder Taylor Kornieck (USA), defender Naomi Girma (USA), goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan (CAN), midfielder Emily van Egmond (AUS) and Sofia Jakobsson (SWE) have all been called up to their respective national teams.

San Diego Wave FC midfielder Taylor Kornieck and defender Naomi Girma will join the U.S. Women's National Team against England in a much-anticipated friendly on Friday, Oct. 7, at a sold-out Wembley Stadium, followed by Spain on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan was named to Canada's roster for matches against Argentina on Thursday, Oct. 6, and Morocco on Monday, Oct. 10. Meanwhile, midfielder Emily van Egmond joins the Matildas to face South Africa on Saturday, Oct. 8, and Denmark on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Finally, forward Sofia Jakobsson returns to the Swedish Women's Football National Team for two matches, on Friday, Oct. 7, against Spain and Tuesday, Oct. 11, against France.

The international FIFA window closes on Wednesday, Oct. 12 ahead of the NWSL playoffs. Wave FC clinched a spot in the 2022 NWSL Playoffs last Sunday against Orlando Pride and is the first expansion team in history to achieve this feat in their inaugural season. Their final regular season match will decide their placement in the seeding and the location of their next match. Four teams in the league have officially punched their tickets to the playoffs, leaving two spots remaining with four teams in contention.
