NWSL Disciplinary Committee Releases Decision on Incident During Chicago Red Stars-Portland Thorns FC Match on September 25
September 29, 2022 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release
NEW YORK -â¯The National Women's Soccer League's Disciplinary Committee has made the following decision after review of an incident involving Chicago Red Stars defender Bianca St-Georges that occurred in the 59th minute of the team's September 25 match against Portland Thorns FC.
After further evaluation, the Disciplinary Committee determined that St-Georges made an obscene gesture towards a referee in violation of Section 12.3.6, "Major Game Misconduct", of the League Operations Manual.
As a result, St-Georges, who received a red card and an automatic one-game suspension for the gesture during the match, has been issued an additional one-game suspension as well as a fine.
The first suspension will be served during the Red Stars' regular season finale on Sunday, October 2, while the second suspension will be served during either Chicago's first scheduled game of the 2022 playoffs should the team advance to the postseason or the first match of the 2023 NWSL regular season.
