BOWIE, Md. - The Altoona Curve scored five runs in the sixth inning and held off the Bowie Baysox for a 6-3 win on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium.

With the win, the Curve (66-59) move back into a tie for second place in the Western Division with Akron, 5.5 games behind first-place Bowie (71-53).

With the Curve trailing 1-0 in the sixth, Eric Wood scored on a passed ball charged to Bowie catcher David Freitas to tie the game, 1-1. Barrett Barnes smashed a two-run double to the center field wall to break the tie and give the Curve a 3-1 lead.

Erich Weiss and Jacob Stallings followed with back-to-back sacrifice flies to cap the five-run sixth inning.

Bowie answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth by Garabez Rosa to close the deficit to two runs.

Jhondaniel Medina (Save, 7) had two strikeouts in the ninth.

After working five scoreless innings to begin the night, Bowie starting pitcher Chris Lee (3-1) left with the bases loaded and no outs in the sixth, and all three of his base runners came in to score later in the inning.

The Curve and Baysox play the second of the three-game set on Saturday night at Prince George's Stadium. Right-hander Jason Creasy (9-7, 2.63) will start for the Curve, countered by Bowie right-hander Gene Escat (1-4, 3.19). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
