Sea Dogs Drop Opener in Harrisburg 11-6

Harrisburg, Pa. The Harrisburg Senators (60-65) scored eight runs over innings 5-7, and held on to beat the Portland Sea Dogs (46-79), 11-6 Friday night at Metro Bank Park in the series opener. Portland falls to 2-2 on their six-game Pennsylvania trip.
Harrisburg scored three runs in the first inning off losing pitcher Luis Diaz (1-10). Denard Span and Dan Uggla, both on Major League Rehab Assignments, began the rally with a walk. Wilmer Difo laced a two-run triple and Brian Goodwin followed with a single.
Portland rallied back, scoring twice in the third inning on a two-run triple by Carlos Asuaje, who now leads the league in triples (7). In the fourth, Aneury Tavarez (2-for-3) tied the game with a solo-shot off Colin Bates (W, 5-4). Bates worked six innings on six hits, five runs (three earned), three walks and four strikeouts.
The Senators knocked Diaz out of the game in the fifth on Shawn Pleffner's RBI double. Chris Bostick smacked Heri Quevedo's first pitch out of the park for a three-run homer, giving Harrisburg a 7-3 lead. Portland added two runs in the sixth inning on a two-run double by Jordan Weems.
Harrisburg scored two in the sixth and seven innings off Quevedo. Oscar Tejeda (2-for-3) cracked a one-out solo-homer in the eighth for the game's final run.
The Senators had three Major Leaguers rehab in the game. Span and Uggla went a combined 0-for-6, but scored four runs. David Carpenter pitched a perfect seventh.
The Portland Sea Dogs and Harrisburg Senators (Nationals affiliate) play the middle game of their three-game series on Saturday night at Metro Bank Park, beginning at 6:00 PM. RHP Mike McCarthy (6-6, 3.52) makes the start for Portland. RHP Austin Voth (4-6, 3.01) takes the mound for Harrisburg. Pre-Game coverage begins on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio network at 5: 40 PM .
