Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Thanks to a five-run seventh inning, Winston-Salem pulled out a 9-8 win over Wilmington on Monday night at BB&T Ballpark.

The Dash (6-6) trailed the Blue Rocks 8-4 entering the bottom of the deciding frame before scoring five runs. With one out in the inning, Luis Robert drew a walk from Robert Garcia to begin the rally. Nick Madrigal then bounced a single off the glove of Wilmington (8-4) first baseman Nick Pratto to put runners at first and second.

After Tyler Frost was hit by a pitch, Zach Remillard came through by depositing a two-run single into right-center field to cut the deficit to two. Two batters later, with Tyler Zuber (0-1) on the mound, Jordan George knocked a two-run double into the left-field corner to tie the score at eight. Then, Dash catcher Carlos Perez notched the go-ahead hit, as his single up the middle scored George from second to give Winston-Salem a 9-8 advantage.

Wyatt Burns (1-1) earned the win for Winston-Salem. Burns allowed just one earned run on three hits across 2.2 innings in relief of Lewis. After the Dash took the lead, Alec Hansen and Luis Ledo pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth respectively, with Ledo earning the save.

Wilmington (8-4) grabbed an early lead in the top of the first. Seuly Matias hit a missile into the right-field seats for his fourth home run of the season to put the Blue Rocks ahead 1-0.

The Dash responded in a big way in the bottom of the second. Craig Dedelow led off the frame by smashing his second homer of the season, a 402-foot shot to right. After Wilmington starter Daniel Lynch surrendered back-to-back walks to George and Perez, Yeyson Yrizarri ripped a double to bring George home and give the Dash a 2-1 lead.

Daniel Gonzalez added to the early lead, hitting a sacrifice fly to deep center to score Perez and make it 3-1. Robert then bounced a single through the left side to score Yrizarri and give the Dash a 4-1 edge.

Trailing 4-1, the Blue Rocks responded with seven unanswered runs. Kyle Isbel smacked a solo-shot to right field in the third to make it 4-2. In the fourth, Pratto led off the inning with a double before coming home on a Cristian Perez single to make it 4-3.

In the fifth, Wilmington chased Dash starter Zach Lewis from the ballgame. Lewis hit Matias with a pitch to force in a run and surrendered an RBI single to Nick Pratto, giving Wilmington a 5-4 lead. The Blue Rocks added one more in the fifth and two in the sixth to gain the 8-4 advantage.

The Dash will continue their three-game set with Wilmington on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark. Left-hander John Parke (1-0, 2.45 ERA) will take the bump for Winston-Salem against Wilmington right-hander Brady Singer (0-1, 1.86 ERA), the Royals top rated prospect according to MLB Pipeline. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and fans can catch all the action on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m.
