Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, NY) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 6-0 on Friday night in the second game of a four-game set at Bethpage Ballpark.

Both teams exchanged zeroes until the fourth when Bryant Nelson grounded a RBI single to center off Blue Crabs starter Nick Green to put the Ducks up 1-0. It stayed that way until the seventh when Long Island put up five runs against the Southern Maryland bullpen. A RBI triple from Dan Lyons, RBI singles from Reid Gorecki and Matt Esquivel, a run-scoring wild pitch and a sac fly from Nelson did the damage.

That was all Ducks starter Gustavo Chacin (1-2) would need to earn his first win of the season, as he tossed six and one-third shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out three. Green (4-3) took the loss despite allowing just one run on six hits in six innings.

Lyons and Ray Navarrete led the Flock with three hits apiece, while Nelson drove in two runs to lead the way.

The Ducks and Blue Crabs continue their series on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Grucci Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Riverhead Bay Motors.
