Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits scored five runs in the first inning of game two of their doubleheader with the Cedar Rapids Kernels en route to a 5-2 win and a split of the night after dropping game one 5-1 at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

In the first contest of the evening Quad Cities was held to just one run on two hits, an RBI single from Luca Tresh in the third, as the Kernels spoiled Rito Lugo's return to full-season action.

A pair of solo home runs got Cedar Rapids out to an early lead with Alerick Soularie taking Lugo deep in the first inning and Yunior Severino doing so in the second. The southpaw only allowed one hit over his next two shutout frames and struck out five, but got pegged with the loss in his 4.0-inning start.

After Tresh's run-scoring knock, Quad Cities logged just one base runner over the final four innings of the game, as Orlando Rodriguez and Bobby Milacki shut out the Bandits bats working out of the bullpen.

Cedar Rapids made it a four-run game plating three against Anderson Paulino in the sixth.

Rodriguez (1-1) got the win with 2.2 scoreless innings of relief for the Kernels, while. Milacki's (1) 1.1 innings to close out the contest netted him his first save.

In game two, it was the Bandits jumping out to an early lead, as they matched their season-high for runs in an inning and strung together six-straight hits against Aaron Rozek including a three-run homer from Juan Carlos Negret and an RBI single from Dillan Shrum to take a 5-0 lead.

After two perfect innings to begin his outing, Bandits' starter Rylan Kaufman allowed a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the third on Kyler Fedko's RBI single and a Saul Garza error, but stranded the bases loaded in the fourth to keep his team on top.

Kaufman would hand the keys to the bullpen for the fifth after not allowing an earned run and striking out five.

While the Bandits' offense came to a halt after the opening frame, Emilio Marquez matched the Kernels' bullpen pitch for pitch and threw four strikeouts in 3.0 perfect innings of relief to hold on to the 5-2 victory.

Marquez (8-2) got the win for Quad Cities, while Rozek (6-3) took the loss allowing five runs over his 3.0-inning performance.

The River Bandits will look to force a split of the week-long set on Sunday afternoon, as they'll send Adrian Alcantara (2-5, 6.05) to the bump for the 2:05pm first pitch at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
