CORPUS CHRISTI - Thursday night's series opener against the Midland RockHounds marked a historic achievement for the Corpus Christi Hooks franchise, as the 5 millionth fan in team history walked through the Whataburger Field gates.

Robert Hallbrook--with his wife Sherry, both season ticket holders since the inaugural season in 2005-- became fan No. 5 million after passing through the home plate entrance and was surprised by waves of confetti and celebrations from members of the Hooks Front Office.

"It's been tremendous," said Robert. "We've been here so long that we've seen so many teams come in, The way the Astros are doing it right now is great. You can tell by the amount of people that come to the games how much Corpus Christi likes it."

"We follow the Astros like crazy," said Sherry. "To be a part of the whole organization and watch the guys come through is something special."

As a result of being the 5 millionth fan, received a prize pack featuring tickets in the Owner's Seats, a selection of Hooks hats from Hook, Line and Sinker, the chance to both throw out the first pitch and lead 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame,' gift certificates to Massage Envy, and a feast courtesy of Whataburger.

"We realized earlier in the year that we were going to have five million fans (and) that's really a stunning number," said Vice President and General Manager Michael Wood. "We're excited about it. It's a nerve-wracking process, but the five millionth fan was very surprised."

During the 12-year history of the Hooks, the Astros affiliate has recorded a 444-378 record at Whataburger Field (a .540 winning percentage), including a 47-win home season during the championship banner year in 2006.

The Hooks have also recorded just nine rainouts out of all the games played on the Coastal Bend during their 12 seasons, with the first postponement occurring in June of 2007, two and a half seasons into the team's existence.
