B.C. Lions News Release

The CFL announced the results of East and West Rogers CFL Player Award voting today and befitting of a Halloween announcement, the West Division is dominated by the Black and Orange of the BC Lions.

Geroy Simon was the selection as West Division's Outstanding Player. Simon put up incredible numbers in 2006 including a league-best and Lions' record 1856 receiving yards on 105 catches. Simon also added 15 TD's while fighting through constant double and triple coverage. Simon's season totals included 11-100-yard games and five games where he caught single passes for more than 60 yards. This is the first West Division nomination for Simon and he'll be up against Winnipeg's Charles Roberts in the category.

Brent Johnson earns the selection as the West Division's Outstanding Canadian and Outstanding Defensive Player. Johnson picked up 16 sacks on the season and chipped in 22 defensive tackles, three fumble recoveries and helped out the offence with two receiving touchdowns. This is Brent's first divisional Outstanding Defensive Player award and his second in the Outstanding Canadian category. Johnson will be matched up against Winnipeg's Doug Brown (OC) and former Lions linebacker Barrin Simpson (ODP).

Despite missing two of the Lions final three regular season games, import left tackle Rob Murphy gets the nomination as the West Division's Outstanding Lineman. The former NFL'er and Ohio State product established a reputation among CFL defences that he was not a player to be taken lightly during his first year in the CFL. Playing with an edge that made each of his fellow linemen better, Murphy helped lead the O-line in providing protection to the CFL's best passing attack of Dave Dickenson, Buck Pierce and Jarious Jackson. Murphy will be up against Montreal's Scott Flory.

Defensive lineman Aaron Hunt earned the West Division nomination as the Outstanding Rookie as he stepped in to the Lions defensive front and contributed nine sacks, 14 defensive tackles, four TFL and a forced fumble. The first-year Lion helped a dominating Lions defensive line rank second against the run and lead the CFL in sacks with 59. Hunt will paired with Montreal's Etienne Boulay.

Please Note: Geroy Simon, Brent Johnson, Rob Murphy and Aaron Hunt will be available to the media today at 1:45 pm at the Lions practice facility in Surrey (10605-135 Street).

The Lions host the Scotiabank West Championship at 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 12th at BC Place Stadium. Call 604.280.4400 for tickets or purchase online at ticketmaster.ca
