Five Homers Send Asheville Past Lexington 10-7

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Trevor Story hit two home runs and the Asheville Tourists rallied from a four-run deficit with eight runs in the final three innings and defeated the Lexington Legends 10-7 on Sunday afternoon. The Tourists hit five home runs in the game.

Asheville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo homer by Story.

The Tourists added another in the third. With two out, Story singled to center field. After Will Swanner was hit by a pitch, Harold Riggins singled, scoring Story.

The Legends took the lead with three runs in the fourth. Zach Johnson was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. He moved to second when Matt Duffy reached on an error by second baseman Taylor Featherston. Brandon Meredith doubled, scoring Johnson and moving Duffy to third. Justin Gominsky grounded out to shortstop, scoring Duffy and moving Meredith to third. Roberto Pena's sacrifice fly scored Meredith, giving the Legends a 3-2 lead.

Lexington extended its lead to 6-2 when Pena hit a three-run homer with two outs in the sixth inning.

Asheville rallied to tie with four runs in the seventh. With one out, Brian Humphries doubled. After Story walked, Swanner homered to left field, cutting the Legends lead to one at 6-5. Harold Riggins followed Swanner's homer with a solo shot to tie the game at 6-6.

The Legends broke the tie with a run in the seventh. Luis Alvarez led off with a single, and was lifted for pinch runner Ruben Sosa. Delino DeShields Jr. and Jordan Scott followed with back to back bunt singles to load the bases. Johnson's sacrifice fly to right field scored Sosa with the go-ahead run.

Two more long balls helped the Tourists go back in front in the eighth inning. Chandler Laurent led off with a home run to right field. Two outs later, Humphries singled and Story followed with his second home run of the game, and the Tourists led 9-7.

Asheville added a final run in the ninth on a single by Featherston and an RBI-double by Ryan Casteel.

Geoff Parker (2-3) came into the game in the sixth, and picked up the win after allowing one run in two and one-third innings.

Murilo Gouvea (2-4), who entered the game after Swanner's three-run homer in the seventh, took the loss.

Asheville has taken the first three games of the five game series with the Legends. Game four of the series is scheduled for Monday night; first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
