
Five Former Border Cats Taken in MLB Draft

Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release
A total of five former Thunder Bay Border Cats were selected in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft which concluded Wednesday.
Outfielder/infielder Michael Foster, who played in Thunder Bay in 2013, was taken in the 16th round, 473rd overall, by the Chicago Cubs. Foster, a native of Pickering, Ontario, just finished up his senior season at Boston College.
Outfielder Alex Bautista from Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky was also selected by the Cubs in the 22nd round, 653rd overall. The New York native played for the Cats in 2013 and 2014.
Outfielder Luke Willis, who played for Thunder Bay under manager Andy Judkins in 2012, was taken in the 30th round, 909th overall, by the Kansas City Royals. Willis just completed his senior season at George Mason University.
Outfielder Jordan Serena, a senior this past season at Columbia University, was picked by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 35th round, 1065th overall. Serena played in 63 games for Thunder Bay in 2014 and batted .286 with eight doubles, three home runs and 30 runs batted in. He led the team in hits with 73 and stolen bases with 17.
Canadian shortstop Joey Hawkins was chosen in the 40th round, 1,211th overall, by the St. Louis Cardinals. The Whitby, Ontario, product, who played for the Border Cats in 2013, just completed his final year at Missouri State University.
Note: Pitcher Mark Seyler was taken in the 19th round, 573rd overall, by the New York Yankees. Seyler was scheduled to play for the Border Cats in 2014, but was shut down last summer due to the number of innings he pitched during his sophomore season at San Diego State University.
