(Portland) - New Hampshire (67-72) won for the sixth straight time and 14th time in the last 17 games, edging Portland 8-7 before 7,173 Friday night at Hadlock Field.

Mike MacDonald (13-9) was the winning pitcher. The Camden, ME native allowed 6 ER and 8 hits in 6.2 IP. But the bullpen shut down Portland's late inning attempts to draw even. Danny Hill, Justin James and Tracy Thorpe each worked scoreless relief. Thorpe earned his 17th save.

Portland took an early 2-0 lead in the 2nd on an RBI double by 3B Brian Myrow and an RBI single by 1B Jeremy West.

The Fisher Cats scored three runs in the 3rd inning off losing pitcher Jose Vaquedano (9-8). Two of the runs scored on DH Ryan Patterson's sixth homer. Patterson went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI in the game.

After Portland had retaken the lead at 4-3, New Hampshire responded with four runs in the 5th to go ahead for good. Dustin Majewski hit a solo homer in the 6th to put the Fisher Cats up 8-4.

The Sea Dogs, who are still battling for the Northern Division wildcard (they are two games ahead of third place Binghamton, which beat Connecticut 11-5), plated three in the 7th and left runners in scoring position in the 8th and 9th innings.

The series continues Saturday at 6pm.
