
Fisher Cats clinch playoff berth with 1-hitter,7-0 over Erie

Manchester, NH- Right-hander Francisco Rosario tossed seven no-hit innings to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats past the Erie SeaWolves 7-0 Saturday at Gill Stadium. With the win, New Hampshire qualified for the playoffs. Rosario (1-4) left after throwing 93 pitches, 60 for strikes. He walked two and struck out eight. Rosario, who had Tommy John surgery in 2002 and missed all of last season, won his first game as a member of the Fisher Cats. New Hampshire (77-55) took a no-hitter to the ninth inning. Reliever Jamie Vermilyea, who pitched a seven-inning perfect game for the Fisher Cats on June 28, retired Scott Tousa to start the inning. But shortstop Anderson Hernandez hit a grounder up the middle for the only hit of the game for the SeaWolves (75-57). Second baseman Dominic Rich drove in three runs with a single, double and his eighth home run of the season. Rich's two-run blast off losing pitcher Joel Zumaya (2-2) staked New Hampshire to a 6-0 lead in the second inning. The Fisher Cats took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Tyrell Godwin walked, and went to second on Rich's single. Aaron Hill walked to load the bases. John-Ford Griffin cleared the bases with a double to centerfield. Griffin scored on a ground out. Justin Singleton robbed designated hitter Kurt Airoso of a home run in the top of the second inning. He jumped to catch the long fly, and landed in the Erie bullpen. The Fisher Cats can now set their sights on winning the Northern Division title. New Hampshire meets Erie again Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm with right hander Chris Baker (5-1) scheduled to make the start against Erie right hander Kyle Sleeth (3-4).
