Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - For the first time all season, the (20-14) Traverse City Pit Spitters were swept in a series, losing the finale to the (19-13) Kenosha Kingfish.
In a pitchers duel, Jeremy Neff (2-2, 1.74) gave the Pit Spitters 4 1/3 strong innings of shutout ball. He tied his season high with seven strikeouts. Cam Schuelke (1-0, 1.02) relieved Neff, getting 1 2/3 shutout innings himself.
The Pit Spitters left the bases loaded in the first inning but struck in the sixth. Chris Monroe extended his team RBI lead (21) with a double to plate Mario Camilletti. It's back-to-back days Monroe recorded an RBI double.
Kenosha tied the game in the eighth and took the lead in the ninth on an unearned run from Evan Gates (0-2, 2.77). They held onto the lead with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to seal the win and hand Traverse City it's first series loss of the season.
The path for a first half division title is no longer in Traverse City's control. Since Kenosha holds the head-to-head tiebreaker, Traverse City needs to sweep their next series and Kenosha needs to lose one game. A Kenosha sweep will clinch.
