October 19, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud ECHL affiliates of the Tampa Bay Lightning, have signed forward Tyler Biggs to a standard ECHL contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Biggs, 23, was a first round (22nd overall) draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2011, and has logged four pro seasons since his professional debut with the Toronto Marlies (AHL). Throughout his career, Biggs has appeared in 129 games, with all but ten being played in the American Hockey League. The native of Loveland, Ohio, spent an injury-plagued 2015-16 season between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (11 games played) and the Wheeling Nailers (two games played), while managing three points.
Before turning pro, the 6-foot-2 forward played with the United States National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor and appeared in 44 league games with the NTDP while also representing his country at various international tournaments. He has been a member of four gold medal teams, including the 2010 U17 World Hockey Challenge, the 2010 and 2011 U18 World Junior Championships and the 2013 U20 World Junior Championship.
Aside from his time with Team USA, Biggs has also had amateur stints with Miami University (Ohio) and the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. The right-hand-shooting winger tallied 92 career amateur points in 144 games and has picked up 24 career points in 129 professional games across the AHL and ECHL.
The newest addition to the team will wear number 26 and will likely make his debut on Friday night against Fort Wayne.
The Kalamazoo Wings host their 43rd annual home opener on Friday, October 21, as they entertain the Fort Wayne Komets. The game features a Fan Fest- a free event with your purchased ticket- which begins at 5:30 p.m. and features local food trucks, craft beer, games, and live music.
