October 19, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Allen Americans News Release
Allen, TEXAS -The Gladiators jumped on the board first in the second frame, as Coppell, Texas native and former Buffalo Sabres draft pick, Collin Jacobs scored to make it 1-0 for his third of the season. The goal came just seconds after the Gladiators' power play had expired. Atlanta took a 1-0 lead to the locker room after outshooting Allen 14 to 9 in the opening frame.
Things weren't much better in the second, as Atlanta added to their lead when Miles Koulis fired a wrist shot past Jamie Murray for his first of the season, from Collin Jacobs to give Atlanta a 2-0 lead. The Gladiators held a slight advantage in shots 22-19 through 40 minutes of play.
The Gladiators extended their lead in the third as Eric Neiley netted his first at 8:54 of the final frame to go up 3-0. The score would remain that way until 13:16, when Dyson Stevenson, who made his season debut tonight, poked home the Americans first of the night to cut the lead to 3-1. Allen put on great pressure late in the third, scoring their second of the night on the power play with the extra attacker on the ice to make it 3-2. Allen failed to tie the game, despite great chances late as the Gladiators held on for a 3-2 win handing the Americans their first loss of the year.
"We didn't play good enough," said Americans forward Greger Hanson who scored the second goal for Allen. "Waiting until late in the third to start playing will not win you many hockey games. It's disappointing."
The game was held up for about fifteen minutes late in the third due to an injury to one of the linesmen. His injury was not confirmed, but he was taken off the ice on a stretcher and appeared to have a leg injury. The game resumed with 3.5 seconds remaining and Atlanta escaped with the win.
Tickets for Friday night's game are on sale NOW at Allen Event Center box office or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Call 972-912-1000 for more info.
