LAST TIME OUT: The Fireflies made a miraculous ninth-inning comeback to defeat Rome, 7-5, in the series opener at State Mutual Stadium. Columbia entered the final frame on Friday down 5-2 and rallied for five runs. With the score tied, 5-5, Nick Conti ripped a triple to the left-center field wall that brought in the two runs that proved to be the difference. Phil Capra was just as clutch as his two-run single earlier in the frame tied things up. Conti, Capra and Chase Chambers all finished with a pair of hits on Friday, while Guillermo Granadillo posted his first three-hit game of the year. Reliever Allan Winans converted his 10th save of the year, a SAL-best since the all-star break.

NEVER SAY NEVER: Friday was the fifth time this season - and second time in three days - Columbia trailed heading to the ninth inning and won:

- Friday @ Rome: Trailed 5-2 after 8 ... won 7-5 (9)

- Wednesday @ Hickory: Trailed 5-4 after 8 ... won 6-5 (9)

- June 24 @ Lexington: Trailed 6-2 after 8 ... won 8-6 (9)

- May 16 @ Augusta: Trailed 3-0 after 8 ... won 5-3 (9)

- April 18 vs. Hickory: Trailed 3-2 after 8 ... won 4-3 (9)

NEVER SAY NEVER, Pt. II: Last season, Columbia was victorious just once when entering the ninth trailing. The five ninth-inning comebacks in 2019 are the most in a single season in franchise history.

THE BANE OF ROME'S EXISTENCE: Columbia is 14-6 against Rome this season, that's the best record for the Fireflies against any team in the SAL. Columbia has come back and beaten Rome four times this year after having trailed in the seventh inning or later. Columbia also defeated the Braves, 9-8, in 10 innings on May 19 and walked off against Rome on May 13. How clutch have the Fireflies been against the Braves this season? Columbia has outscored Rome, 16-5, from the seventh inning on in its 14 wins over the club.

WHEN IN ROME: Even despite Columbia's excellent record against Rome in 2019, the season series has featured some extraordinarily close games. Twelve of the 20 games have been decided by three runs or fewer.

STATS ARE FUN!: Columbia allowed 15 hits on Friday and still won. The 15 hits were the most allowed by the Fireflies this year in a win. Rome left 11 runners on base.

WHEN IN ROME, Pt. II: With such a large sample size of games, here's the top hitter on each team in the season series:

- C. Chambers v. ROM: .340 (16-for-47), 13 GP, 5 2B, 2 HR, 7 RBI, .954 OPS

- G. Cullen vs. COL: .319, 20 GP, 14 R, 5 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 8 BB, .910 OPS
