Fireflies Release 2021 Schedule & Game Times
February 18, 2021 - Low-A East League (Low-A East) - Columbia Fireflies News Release
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia Fireflies, in conjunction with Major League Baseball and the Kansas City Royals, today announced their 2021 season schedule. The 2021 Championship Season will feature 120 games beginning on May 4 and continuing through September 19. The Fireflies will play 60 home games at Segra Park in 2021.
The Fireflies are set to open the season on the road at SRP Park vs the Augusta GreenJackets (Atlanta Braves) with a six-game series before the team returns to Columbia for Opening Night on Tuesday, May 11 vs the Charleston RiverDogs (Tampa Bay Rays).
"When Opening Night finally returns to Segra Park, it will have been a long 20 months since our last home game on August 29, 2019," said Fireflies Team President John Katz. "In the coming weeks, we will be providing our fans with our blueprint to reopen the ballpark to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for our fans in the Midlands and beyond."
In an effort to limit travel and prevent spread of COVID-19, during the 2021 season all series will be six games long. All series will begin on Tuesday and end on Sunday, followed by an off day each Monday. Teams will play mostly within their division to further limit travel. The Fireflies will play in the South Division of the new Low-A East League, predominantly facing off against in-state rivals Charleston, Augusta and Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs).
Along with familiar opponents in Charleston and Augusta, the Fireflies will welcome the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (Chicago White Sox) back to Segra Park in 2021. Myrtle Beach and the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (Houston Astros) will come to Segra Park for the first time in team history.
Game times for the 2021 season will remain similar to past Fireflies seasons. Tuesday through Friday games will be played at 7:05pm, Saturday games will now begin at 6:35pm, and all Sunday games will start at 5:05pm.
While the schedule has been officially released, the Commissioner of Major League Baseball, Rob Manfred, does have the authority to adjust the schedule based on adverse changes to health and safety presented by COVID-19.
More information about the 2021 season, including ticketing information, fan and player safety guidance and promotional calendar, will be released in the coming weeks. Visit www.ColumbiaFireflies.com to stay up to date on all things Columbia Fireflies.
