Florida Firecats News Release
Estero, FL- Florida Firecats Defensive Specialist Quincy Sorrell is once again about to become the af2's all-time leading tackler.
In 2004 "Q" registered 100.5 tackles in the regular season while laying claim to the leagues top tackler finishing the year with 287.5 career tackles, then the all-time mark.
In 2005 he opted to play for another indoor football league and was eclipsed by long time teammate and friend Roy "the Snake" Stabler, who played for the Firecats from 2002 to 2005. Last season Stabler registered 65.5 stops to overtake Sorrell for the #1 spot.
In just 6 games this year Quincy has accounted for 39.5 tackles and needs just 7.5 more to tie the former Firecat with 334.5.
"Roy and I are great friends and I didn't mind him having the record for awhile, but it'll be a nice record to have when my playing days are done." Sorrell said of the top tackler record. "But all the awards don't matter if we don't win, that's what we're here for, to win a ring."
The Firecats have won 5 straight to improve to 5-1 on the year. The team currently sits in 1st place in the South Division. This week the team head to Manchester, New Hampshire to play the 2-4 Wolves Saturday May 20th at 7:30pm. Florida and Manchester split their series meetings last season, with the road teams coming out on top of both games.
The Games can be heard each week on 98.9 FM WGUF Naples FM Talk and www.ABC-7.com and www.NBC-2.com.
The Firecats will return home to Germain Arena to play their next 3 games beginning Saturday May 27th against the South Georgia Wildcats.
Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling the Firecats box office at 239-390-CATS (2287).
