QUAD CITY STEAMWHEELERS (2-4) AT GREEN BAY BLIZZARD (3-4)
FRIDAY, MAY 19, 2006 - The Resch Center (7,995) 8:30 P.M. ET
The Quad City Steamwheelers head to Green Bay to take on the Blizzard in the lone Friday night matchup of Week 8. It's a game between two sub .500 teams, but both teams are coming off Week 7 wins. The Steamwheelers won a tight one at home, beating the Louisville Fire 68-62 in overtime, their second consecutive overtime win. Schutt Offensive Player of the Game TIM HICKS set a team record with 405 yards passing. He also had 29 completions and tossed six touchdowns. The game-winner came on a 12-yard strike WR/DB TIM DODGE in the sudden death overtime period. The score came after both teams scored touchdowns but missed the extra point on their first possessions in overtime. Quad City TE/DL DAVID HURST earned U.S. Army Ironman of the Game honors with a strong two-way performance that included a 36-yard touchdown catch on offense and 2.5 tackles on defense. Steamwheelers WR/DB TROY GRAHAM won the ADT Defensive Player of the Game with a game-high 9.5 tackles and a crucial fourth quarter interception in Quad City's own end zone. Hicks is the team's leader on offense. The veteran signal caller currently leads the league in passing yards per game at 320.7. His primary target is WR/LB Jack Walker, Jr., who is tied for fourth in the league with 51 receptions. Quad City's early season troubles lie in its overall defense, which is allowing an average of 62.0 points per game. The Blizzard have been a bit up-and-down so far this season. They seemed to rebound from their recent sub par play with an impressive 53-19 home win against the Macon Knights. The Schutt Offensive Player of the Game was QB RONNIE GORDON (16-for-26, 255 yards, 4 TDs passing, 1 TD rushing, 0 INTS). DS DAVID CROCKER was the ADT Defensive Player of the Game with 8.5 tackles and two passes defended. FB/LB PETER LAZARRE leads Green Bay's boasts top-ranked rushing offense with 106 rushing yards (3rd in af2). The Blizzard are out to complete the season sweep of their East Division foes after taking the first head-to-head battle back on April 15 at Quad City, 57-34. This should be an intriguing matchup of offense versus defense, as Quad City takes its No.5-ranked total offense (54.5 ppg) against Green Bay's No. 3-ranked scoring defense (38.0 ppg). If the Steamwheelers force a few stops, this should be a close one to call.
