
Bakersfield Blitz Sign New Kicker Kirk Yliniemi

BAKERSFIELD - The AF2 assigned new kicker, Kirk Yliniemi to the Blitz roster in replace of current kicker, Adam Holiday. Blitz offensive lineman/defensive lineman, Nick Onaindia is activated from short term injured reserve and will be playing in Saturday's game against the Stockton Lightning.
Originally from Monmouth, Oregon, Yliniemi (pronounced: e-lem-u-ne) graduated from Oregon State University in 2004. At Oregon State, he was documented as the Most Accurate Field Goal Kicker in Oregon State History and recorded 20 consecutively made field goals. "Based on workouts, we like what we see," Kicking Coach Lorenzo Alvarez said. "Yliniemi brings a lot of experience as a place kicker and has a good history with great stats in big games." Yliniemi is entering his first season with the AF2. During the fall of 2004 and 2005, he was in camp with the NFL San Francisco 49ers.
"I am glad Nick is healthy and back ready to play," Head Coach Gary Compton said. "He is a vital part of our defense." So far for the 2006 season, Onaindia has accumulated 59 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Defensively, he has totaled 10.5 tackles and 1 sack for 2 yards.

FB/LB, Gil Hernandez has been released and the AF2 has assigned WR/DB, Deonte Williams to the Blitz roster.
The Blitz team faces the Stockton Lightning for the second time on Saturday, May 20 as they enter their eighth week in the af2 2006 season. Kick off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Rabobank Arena. In their last meeting, the Blitz returned home from Stockton with a victorious win and left the Lightning with a 26-55 defeat on the night of their home opener.
Bakersfield Blitz maintained their winning streak as they dominated the game against the Rio Grande Dorados on Saturday, May 13. Their 53-45 victory brings the Blitz to an overall record of 5-1, holding their first place spot in the National Western Division.
