THE STAKES: After 3 consecutive wins, the Dusters have climbed back to .500 and climbed back into the early-season playoff race in the Midwest Division. They seek to get their 4th consecutive victory, which would also be their 4th consecutive victory against a division opponent. The Dorados look to bounce-back from last weekend's loss at Bakersfield, and improve their record to 5-3 overall. This is the first meeting between these two teams.
COACH PERDUE'S THOUGHTS ON THE RGV:
"They are solid across the board in everything they do. But, they've been up and down all season, so it's hard to say which team we'll face. For us, we know we can't be as sloppy as we were on Saturday night and expect to have a chance against these guys. They have a veteran group of players, and they are well-coached. Those guys will quickly take advantage of our mistakes, so the goal for us this week is to play mistake-free football. We have to continue putting heat on the quarterback, and we can't drop balls like we did against Bossier City. Every snap of the football has to count for something."
BIG KERT BRINGS IT UP THE MIDDLE:
Dusters' C/NG Kert Turner has made a huge impact over the last two games, especially on defense. He has racked up 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 5 batted balls in the past two games from his noseguard position on defense. Offensively, he has yet to allow a sack this season.
KEY MATCHUP: QUARTERBACK PLAY
History will be made again on Saturday night, when for the first time in af2 history two starting International quarterbacks will face off in a game. For Steve Panella and J.R. Davies, this won't be the first time the gunslingers have fired bullets on the same field. On November 15, 2003, Panella led his St. Mary's Huskies against Davies and his Simon Fraser Clan in the National Semi-Finals of Canadian College Football. Panella got the upper hand that night, going 10 of 14 for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns in a lop-sided 60-9 victory. Davies had a solid night as well however, as he went 14 of 29 for 178 yards and 1 touchdown. Both Panella and Davies earned All-Canadian honors that season.
In 2005, Davies played in 5 games for the Dorados, completing 28 of 45 passes for 307 yards and 6 touchdowns with 2 interceptions. In two games of action this season, he has passed for 246 yards with 5 touchdowns and 1 interception.
In 2005, Panella saw action in 9 games, completing 53 of 87 passes for 606 yards and 8 touchdowns with 2 interceptions. As the starter for all 6 Dusters games in 2006, Panella has completed 108 of 197 passes for 22 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.
