Fayetteville Marksmen News Release
[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that forward Bryan Dobek has been re-assigned from the Gwinnett Gladiators of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). Defenseman Trevor Wolfe was re-called by the Trenton Titans, also of the ECHL.
Dobek, a 5'10'', 185-pound centerman from Escondido, California, returns to the FireAntz and will resume his goal scoring streak. Dobek scored goals in six straight games (seven total) beginning on November 3rd before being re-called by Gwinnett. In eight games with the FireAntz he totaled seven goals, four assists and was a +6.
Wolfe, a 6'2'', 200-pound defenseman from Toledo, Ohio played in 16 games with the FireAntz. He had four assists and 22 penalty minutes.
The FireAntz other recent transactions have paid dividends as well. Defenseman Mike Clarke, the 2005-06 SPHL defenseman of the year, rejoined the club after beginning the season in Bloomington of the United Hockey League (UHL). In 13 games with the FireAntz Clarke has mirrored his form of the previous season, netting two goals, 14 assists, and 16 points. He has also re-energized what was a struggling power play unit. The power play was 1 for their last 51 chances before Clarke returned. In the 13 games since Clarke's return the club has tallied 15 goals while on the power play.
Rob Sich, the 2005-06 SPHL Rookie of the Year while with the Florida Seals, was obtained by the FireAntz in the dispersal draft after the Seals ceased operations. In 10 games with the FireAntz, Sich has eight goals, 13 assists and 21 points. He is also a +11. The new line of Sich, Josh Welter, and Tim Velemirovich has clicked from the beginning. The three have combined for 21 goals, 30 assists for 51 points and a +35 rating in the 10 games since Sich has been with the club.
The FireAntz have added some toughness in addition to all of the scoring. Forward Chad Wilcox has been with the club for seven games and has totaled 39 penalty minutes to go along with his goal and assist. The addition of Wilcox has provided a physical presence that has been lacking since forward Chris Ferguson went on the 30-day injured reserve list.
The revamped FireAntz remain in 5th place in the SPHL standings. The club only has six games remaining on the road and nine games on home ice. They currently are five points behind the Knoxville Ice Bears for 4th place and are just 10 behind the 1st place Columbus Cottonmouths.
The FireAntz next home games are this weekend and it is Fayetteville Observer Weekend. The I-95 rivalries will heat up as the Pee Dee Cyclones visit on Saturday, February 17th at 7:35 pm. The following day, Sunday, the FireAntz will play host to the Richmond Renegades. Great seats still remain and there are outstanding group rates available from the FireAntz office at (910) 321-0123.
