The scheduled date for the night is March 10, 2007 which was moved forward from the original date of January 27, 2007 due to scheduling conflicts. The Renegades are trying to raise $20,000 that night to fund the scholarship.
The evening will feature a display of several race cars including the #8 Budweiser Nextel car of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and pace cars from several tracks. Motorcycles, hogs and dragsters will also be on display. There will be numerous items for silent auction including #8 Budweiser items, Coliseum suites for special upcoming events and Busch series racing tickets. A live auction will be held for the special jerseys the player's will wear that night. Another item of interest for the live auction will be the #5 Renegades jersey belonging to team owner Allan B. Harvie, Jr. from the original 1990 Renegades team. An autographed Wayne Gretzky jersey will be auctioned.
Jessica Beck was the daughter of Jeff and Joyce Beck of Richmond. Jeff Beck is a local radio personality who was recently inducted into the Virginia radio Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Jessica was a student athlete at Douglas Freeman High School and went on to become a member of the Ohio State synchronized swim team. She passed away in her sleep on September 15, 2005. The scholarship is designed to be given on an annual basis to a deserving Douglas Freeman High School student.
Attached to this release is a page from THE RENEGADE, the official program of the Richmond Renegades. It is written by Renegades owner and General Manager Allan B. Harvie, Jr. and gives a better insight into Jessica. Jessica has a website located at www.jessicabeck.net which gives much more information on this very special young woman. The Richmond Renegades have dedicated their season to the memory of Jessica. On their jerseys is a patch, a heart which contains the name Jessica and four stars that were drawn by her several years ago. The name and stars are colored green; her favorite color. The heart is also imbedded into the Coliseum ice on both sides of the center red line.
The Richmond Renegades have received commitments from many of the local media to do public service announcements promoting this special night. It is anticipated that there will be a very large crowd at the Coliseum that night. The Renegades will play the Fayetteville FireAntz on what will be the final Saturday night of the regular season.
