Fayetteville Marksmen News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, NC---The weekend ended up being a tale of two games. After being beaten in Fayetteville Saturday night, Macon got its revenge by beating the Cape Fear FireAntz 5-3. The FireAntz dominated Saturday, but could not get the puck rolling right tonight.
Instead of scoring in the first two minutes of the game, the FireAntz allowed Macon (23-(4)-25, 42 points) to score the game's first four goals, three of them in the second period. Tommy Stewart got the lone goal in the first period on a power play.
After a Steve Howard and Edan Welch goal, Stewart scored his second goal of the game, again on the power play. Macon converted half of their six power play chances of the night.
Bruce Watson scored his 18th goal of the year, on the power play, 11:33 into the second period to get the Antz (21-(1)-29, 39 points) on the board. Peter Cermak brought the Antz to within two goals halfway through the final stanza. That would be the closest the Antz would come in the game.
Tommy Stewart finished off his hat trick at the 14-minute mark of the third period. The third goal was his 33rd of the season, good for tops in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League.
Aaron Shrieves brought the Macon lead back down to two with his 18th goal of the year, with three minutes remaining in the game. Cape Fear fired six shots at Trax goalie Geoff Faulkner in the last parts of the game, but could not find the back of the net.
The FireAntz remain three points in front of Winston-Salem as a result of their 6-1 loss to Orlando. The Seals will swim into town this coming Friday (Feb. 21) for a 7:35 p.m. puck drop at the Crown Coliseum.
