Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

Some teams seem to stop caring when they're eliminated from the playoff race but this afternoon it seemed the Fayetteville FireAntz were relishing their opportunity to play the spoiler role. With 5 different goal scorers and 4 players having multipoint games, the Fayetteville FireAntz took down the Ice Flyers by a final score of 6-4 in a rare afternoon game in the Hangar.

Pensacola looked to be picking up where they left off last night when Kevin Brojek got his second goal of the season 7:33 into the first with the assists going to Ryan Salvis and Andrew Howes. A minute and fourteen seconds later the lead was pushed to 2-0 when Chris Wilson put a 5-on-3 power play goal behind Fayetteville's Mike Brown. Jordan Chong and Tyler Soehner earned the helpers. The FireAntz would get on the board just over a minute later when Josh McQuade scored a shorthanded goal to cut the lead to 2-1. At the 17:49 mark, Bobby Reed tied the game for the Antz.

Fayetteville would take their first lead of the game just 3:14 into the second when Jesse Cole first a power play goal past Corey Milan. For the next ten minutes the puck spent the majority of the time in Fayetteville's defensive zone with a ton of near misses for the Ice Flyers. At the 13:28 mark Andrew Harrison intercepted a FireAntz pass and sped towards the net. Harrison passed it to Kevin Brojek, who had pinched in, and Brojek got his second goal of the game.

Just over four minutes into the third the Ice Flyers would regain the lead when Jordan Chong pushed the score to 4-3; Chris Wilson got the lone assist. The Flyers would lead for the next seven minutes but Mike Forgie tied the game for the Antz at the 11:39 mark. With less than three minutes to go, Jesse Cole got his second of the game again on the power play. Down one goal late, the Ice Flyers would pull Corey Milan in favor of the extra attacker but it wouldn't work out for them as former Ice Flyer Chris Rebernik took a pass and tapped it into the empty net with 45 seconds to go in the game.

Milan made 15 saves on the 20 shots his faced. Chris Wilson was named the 3rd star while Kevin Brojek was named the 2nd star.

The Ice Flyers will be back on the ice in the Hangar Tuesday Night when the Columbus Cottonmouths come to town.
