Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Battle Creek, MI - The final road game for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (10-22-1, 26-40-1 overall) ended in a tie with the Battle Creek Bombers (10-21-1, 24-42-1 overall). After taking an early lead, Wisconsin Rapids fell behind and tied the game at 6-6 in the final inning. The game was called after eight innings.
The Rafters starter Cole Webb (SO, Valparaiso Univ.) was pegged to a 4-0 lead when the road team tallied four off of the Bombers' Patrick Borlick in the second inning. Aaron Gretz (FR, Ohio State Univ.) knocked in two on his first triple of the season. Another came home on a sacrifice fly from Jordan Dreiling (JR, Univ. of Kansas) and a fourth scored on an error.
Webb held the lead until the third. Retiring seven of the first eight batters he faced, Webb allowed the next four to reach. All of them scored.
Two more reached off of Tommy Organ (SO, Univ. of North Florida) in his two innings of relief, both in fifth, giving the Bombers their first lead at 6-4. JP Feyereisen (FR, UW-Stevens Point), though, would toss three scoreless innings after that, allowing the Rafters to come from behind.
Wisconsin Rapids would claw their way back. Scoring off of originally slated starter Dan Tyson, the Rafters Brandon Downes (FR, Univ. of Virginia) led off the seventh with a double. With rain falling, and picking up in the middle innings, up next was Josh Cyr (JR, Univ. of North Alabama). He hit a ball grounded to the left side of the infield. In the sloppy infield, Bombers shortstop Dillon Moyer muffed the ball and Downes scored from second.
In the eighth Downes would be a factor once again. With Alex Tukey on to try and get out of a corners covered and no-out situation, Downes lifted a ball deep enough to score Dreiling on a sacrifice fly to tie the game 6-6. After Feyereisen fired his third scoreless inning, the game was called.
With the tie, the Rafters won the season series with the Bombers 5-4-1. The win is the second season series the Rafters have won this season; the first came against the Madison Mallards. This marks the first time the Rafters have won two season series in the same season in franchise history.
Wisconsin Rapids returns home to take on the Lakeshore Chinooks (16-16, 33-34 overall) for three games to finish the season. Augey Bill (2-2, 2.56 ERA) starts game one Friday night. First pitch from Witter Field is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
