(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers took game two of the three-game series with the Alexandria Beetles on Thursday night by a final score of 11-3.
The Beetles scored first with two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run blast from their designated hitter Ben Moore (Alabama).
The Honkers responded with three runs in the top of the second inning on a bases-loaded walk and a two-run single from the bat of right fielder Jordan Parr (Illinois).
Left fielder Justin Parr (Illinois) extended his Honkers hitting-streak record to 21 games in the first inning on a bunt single, then extended the Honkers lead to 4-2 on a solo home run in the third. The solo shot was Justin Parr's seventh homer of the summer, and he finished the night 4 for 5 with four RBIs.
The Honkers went ahead 7-3 in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by center fielder Dakota Smith (Kansas) to score Jordan Parr, and an RBI single from Justin Parr.
Honker starter Mason Pingel (Western Illinois) allowed just three earned runs on six hits over his 8.0 innings of work, while striking out nine batters. With the win, Pingel is now 1-0.
Rochester continued to pour it on in the top of the ninth on three hits to make it an 11-3 lead.
Honkers designated hitter Jared Allen (Tennessee) went 2 for 4 on the night with a run and two RBIs. Jordan Parr and third baseman Reid Roper (Illinois) also went 2 for 4 in the Honkers victory.
The Honkers (12-20, 27-40) and Beetles (18-14, 31-36) will play the series finale tomorrow at 7:05 PM in Alexandria, MN. On the mound for the Honkers will be right-hander Chris Noble (Pikeville), who is 2-4 in 13 games this summer with an ERA of 6.56. Noble has faced Alexandria three times this summer and is 2-0 against the North Division opponent. In his last outing against the Beetles on July 16th, Noble worked through 2.2 innings of relief and surrendered one earned run on four hits in a 9-5 Honkers loss.
Starting on the hill for the Beetles will be righty Jon Reed (Memphis). Reed is 5-1 with a 4.45 ERA in 14 games and carries a 1-1 record against the Honkers in 2012.
The Honkers are back home in Rochester, MN for a two-game series with the St. Cloud Rox on Saturday, August 9th. First pitch from Mayo Field is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
