Reading Fightin Phils News Release
(Reading, PA) - Friday night's game between the Fightin Phils and Baysox nearly played out like their first meeting on Thursday night, when the Baysox erased a 5-1 deficit in the ninth for a 7-5 win. Trying to get even in game two, Reading had three separate three-run leads and hung on for a 5-4 win to tie the series with two games remaining. Adam Haseley's first career two-home run game, Harold Arauz' first seven inning start, and Aaron Brown's first Double-A save were among the highlights in front of a crowd of 7,011.
Haseley led off the first with a home run off Baysox starter Christian Binford, who matched Arauz by going seven. In the third, Emmanuel Marrero led off with a single from the bottom of the lineup, and Haseley powered another pitch out over the plate deep to right for a 3-0 lead, which was more than enough for Arauz.
The righthander started his night by retiring the first seven batters he faced and Bowie didn't score until the top of the fourth. All-Star Corban Joseph's one-out double came two batters before Anthony Santander singled him home with two away to make it a 3-1 game.
Haseley later led the charge with a one out double in the fifth that found the wall in left center. A single from Cornelius Randolph placed runners at the corners, and Austin Listi extended his hitting streak to 15 games with an RBI single for a 4-1 advantage.
During his final inning in the seventh, Arauz allowed a two out home run to Ademar Rifaela, whose fourth longball got the Baysox back to within a pair at 4-2. Again, the Fightins had the immediate answer when Darick Hall delivered his second hit with an RBI single to go up 5-2 in the home seventh.
After the Baysox put the first three batters on in the top of the eighth, Aaron Brown was summoned from the bullpen rather quickly. He'd get Joseph on a groundout, but a walk and an error loaded the bases with the Baysox only down a run after scoring twice on a Ryan McKenna double and a wild pitch. One pitch away from walking in the tying run, Brown got Aderlin Rodriguez to hit into a 6-4-3 double play to retire the side before another disappearing act in the ninth.
The lefthander got two quick flyouts to push the Baysox to the brink, but like game one, they continued to battle back. Erick Salcedo got to first as the tying run with an opposite field single into right, and McKenna kept the line moving with a walk. Brown finally prevailed, getting a groundout from Anderson Feliz to finish off two scoreless innings of relief for his first save with the Fightins and fifth overall.
