Fightins Manage Ten Hits in Loss

The Reading Fightin Phils (41-58) are still winless against the Erie SeaWolves (49-53) this season as they lost 5-4 on Monday night despite managing ten hits. Reading led early 2-0 then tied the game at 4-4 in a good effort by the Fightins offense.

Jake Fox for the second straight game gave the Fightin Phils a 2-0 lead as he hit a two-run home run off SeaWolves starter Jeff Ferrell in the top of the 1st inning. Peter Lavin scored on the play after hitting a one-out double. Erie cut the lead in half when Dixon Machado hit a solo home run off Hoby Milner in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Erie took a 4-2 lead off Milner in the bottom of the 3rd as Ramon Cabrera hit a RBI groundout and RBI singles from Francisco Martinez and Dixon Machado. Reading tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the 4th inning as Logan Moore hit a RBI double and Albert Cartwright added a RBI single off Ferrell.

Erie broke the 4-4 tie in the bottom of the 7th inning as Francisco Martinez scored on a RBI groundout off Colton Murray from Craig Albernaz. Martinez reached base via an error by first baseman Jake Fox. The run charged to Murray was an unearned run.

Hoby Milner left after 3 2/3 innings as he allowed four runs off ten hits with two walks and one strikeout. Mike Nesseth came in relief of Milner and tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Kyle Simon tossed a scoreless bottom of the 8th inning. Colton Murray (0-4) received his fourth loss on the season.

The Fightin Phils and Erie SeaWolves play tomorrow night at Jerry Uht Park in Erie, Pa. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
