
Fightins Hit Their Way to 7-4 Win in Richmond

Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Fightin Phils offense recorded eleven hits and scored seven runs to defeat the Richmond Squirrels 7-4 on Monday night. Cameron Perkins is on a roll as he went two for five with a two-run home run, his eighth double and three runs batted in.
Reading continued to show how well they attack early as Brock Stassi hit a two-RBI single to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning off Flying Squirrels starter Jack Snodgrass. Cesar Hernandez added another run in the top of the second inning off Snodgrass as he hit a RBI single to score Edgar Duran and give Reading a 3-0 lead.
The Flying Squirrels came roaring back as Tyler Graham hit a sacrifice fly off Severino Gonzalez to score Brett Kill in the bottom of the third inning to cut the Fightin Phils lead to 3-1. Richmond would tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth off Gonzalez as Ricky Oropesa and Brett Kill would hit RBI singles.
The Fightin Phils quickly broke up the tie in the top of the fifth inning as Tommy Joseph hit a RBI groundout off Flying Squirrels reliever Phil McCormick to give Reading a 4-3 lead. Cameron Perkins would strike next as he hit a two-run home run off McCormick to give the Fightin Phils a 6-3 lead. Richmond scored a run off reliever Austin Wright in the bottom of the sixth inning as Oropesa hit a RBI groundout the bring the Flying Squirrels within two runs, 6-4.
Perkins continued to attack as he hit a RBI double off Flying Squirrels reliever Jose Casilla to give the Fightin Phils a 7-4 lead. Kenny Giles would earn his fifth straight save as he struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth inning to preserve the 7-4 for Reading.
The Fightin Phils improve to 8-3 on the season and will send Brody Colvin to the mound on Tuesday evening. First pitch from The Diamond in Richmond, VA is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
