Lake County Fielders News Release

The Lake County Fielders won 9-8 over the Schaumburg Flyers on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Jeff Dunbar that scored Brandon Anderson on Lindenhurst Health and Fitness Family Day in Kenosha, WI.

Brian McFall led off the bottom of the ninth by being hit by a pitch from Flyers' pitcher Reed Price. Brandon Anderson came on as a pinch runner and promptly stole second. He advanced to third on Cody Strait's fielder's choice groundout to first.

Aaron Cone then walked to bring up Dunbar, who sent a deep fly ball to left field and the throw home from Tom Fitzgerald was not in time to get Anderson as he crossed home with the winning run.

The Fielders jumped out to a big 8-1 lead, but the Flyers battled back to tie the score at 8 after 8 innings, setting the stage for the dramatic bottom of the ninth.

Amos Ramon led the early offensive attack for the Fielders going 2-5 with 5 RBI. He hit a two-run double in the bottom of the second to give the Fielders the early 3-1 lead. He then hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to put the Fielders ahead 8-1.

The Flyers battled back scoring three in the fifth, three more in the seventh on a home run from Terry Mermer and one in the eighth on a double play ground out from Travis Brown.

Chris Homer pitched a perfect top of the ninth to get his first win of the season. He has yet to allow a run in 10.1 innings pitched this season.

Joshua Short added a solo home run in the third, his tenth of the season. And Kyle Higgins had his second consecutive good day at the plate. After going 3-4 yesterday, he went 2-3 today, with an RBI single and two runs scored.

Fielders starting pitcher Ryan Bicondoa, coming off of a complete game victory his last time out on Tuesday against Kansas City, went five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out three.

The Lake County Fielders are next in action Monday night, June 28th at 7:00 pm against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Carthage College Baseball Field in Kenosha, WI.
