Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Schaumburg, IL - The Flyers (14-21) won their sixth straight Saturday night, downing the Fielders (11-22) 5-3. Dustin Glant (4-1) pitched 8.2 strong innings after being pulled in a bases loaded jam in the top of the ninth. Before the ninth, the Schaumburg righty was mowing down the Fielders. Glant finished the game with six strikeouts and allowed three runs on nine hits, two of which were earned.

The Flyers started the scoring early. Brandon Newton led off the bottom of the first with a single, followed by a Travis Brown walk. A batter later, Richard Mercado drove in Newton on an opposite field single to right. A Tom Fitzgerald sacrifice fly plated Brown. Then Andre Marshall drove home Mercado on a double smashed to deep right.

Schaumburg scored again in the bottom of the second after a Joe Pauley single followed by a Brandon Newton double.

The Flyers would tack on two more in the second and fourth and the Fielders picked up a run of their own in the top of the fourth after Brian McFall led the inning off with a double. The Lake County right fielder advanced to third on an Aaron Cone groundout and scored on a Glant wild pitch.

The game got interesting when Glant loaded the bases in the top of the ninth with two outs. After walking home a run, making the score 5-2, Glant was pulled in favor of Cody Evans. The righty proceeded to walk the next batter, cutting the Flyers advantage to two with the bases still juiced. Yet, Evans was able to strike out McFall to seal the win for Glant and pick up the save.

The losing pitcher was Jacob Marceaux (0-1). The righty pitched five innings, allowing five runs while striking out four in his Fielders debut.

The Flyers and Fielders finish their four game set tomorrow back at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the Fielders. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 4:55 PM with the game to follow.
