T-Bones Outslug JackHammers 9-6

JOLIET, IL - Rico Washington went 4-5 with two runs batted in as the Kansas City T-Bones (21-15) outslugged the Joliet JackHammers (16-18) 9-6 Saturday night at Silver Cross Field. The two teams combined for 15 runs and 30 hits with the finale set for tomorrow afternoon at 2:10 p.m.

Five late runs pushed Kansas City into the lead as the T-Bones snapped a two game losing streak to the JackHammers. The T-Bones turned a 5-4 deficit into a 7-5 lead, plating three runs. Jake Blackwood started the frame with a solo home run off Ross Stout (2-4) to tie the game at five. Washington followed with a double and Ray Sadler plated Washington with a double of his own off Michael Rocco, who came on for Stout. Jim Fasano lined a single up the middle to put the T-Bones out in front by two.

The JackHammers responded with a run in the bottom half of the seventh on a Chris Colton two out RBI single before Kansas City plated two more in the eighth. Keith Hernandez launched his first homer of the season off Billy Petrick and Washington collected his second run batted in with a single for the 9-6 final.

Stout picked up the loss surrendering six runs on 11 hits in six innings, allowing four runs in the second on a Brian Joynt solo long ball and RBI singles by Jimmy Mojica, Keanon Simon and Washington.

Joliet picked up three in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 4-3. Jon Nelson took Brett Davis deep and Joe Billick knocked home a run with a groundout to first. Jonathan Wyatt made it 4-3 with a two out single, plating Roberto Mena.

Davis was bounced after two innings, squandering a 4-0 lead after allowing four runs on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Steven Stewart (3-1) allowed two runs, but pitch five innings out of the bullpen for the victory. The JackHammers took a 5-4 lead in the fourth on a Brad Correll single, but Stewart would recover to allow the two runs on five hits with three strikeouts.

Colton and Correll led the JackHammers with three hits while Nelson knocked in a game high two runs.

Joliet will look to take three of four from Kansas City tomorrow as Todd Privett (2-2) goes opposite Ryan Knippschild (5-2). First pitch is slated for 2:10 p.m. with a 2:00 p.m. pre-game show on the JackHammers Radio Network.
