Lake County Fielders News Release
Kenosha, WI - The Lake County Fielders (14-22) grabbed their second consecutive win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes (21-17) Tuesday night at Carthage College after a walk-off, twelve inning win Monday night.
The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when the Goldeyes led off the inning with a Juan Diaz single. Vince Harrision singled to advance Diaz to third, eventually scoring off Dee Brown's RBI double. The Fielders fired back with one run in the bottom of the inning. Josh Short lined a lead off double to right field and was brought around on a sacrifice fly from Aaron Cone.
The Fielders added another run when newest Fielder Zach Larson crushed a solo home run to lead off the inning, putting the Fielders up 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth.
Matt Schweitzer replaced John Brownell in the eighth, giving up a lead off single to Wes Long and putting the tying run on first. Aharon Eggelston then reached on a dropped ball by left fielder Josh Short. Long was then brought around on an RBI single from West, knotting the game 2-2.
The tie was short lived after Brian McFall came to the plate in the eighth and crushed a two-out home run to put the Fielders in front of the Goldeyes for the win.
Brownell had his best outing of the year, throwing seven innings giving up six hits, one run, one walk and striking out eight Goldeyes. Garrett Sherrill took the win, improving his record to 4-0 in only one-third of an inning pitched. Marco Gonzalez picked up his first save, after giving up a lead off single to Dee Brown and striking out Luis Alen and Brett Wallace.
The Fielders look to obtain their first sweep tomorrow as they take on the Winnipeg Goldeyes at 12:00pm at Carthage College. Fielders will send Garry Bakker (2-4, 3.51) to the mound opposite Stephen Flake (2-1, 1.65).
