Schaumburg Flyers News Release

The T-Bones (22-16) defeated the Schaumburg Flyers (14-23) 3-2 Monday night at Alexian Field on the strength of a complete game by Northern League ERA leader Andrew Cruse.

The story of tonight's game was T-Bones pitcher Andrew Cruse (5-2), who allowed just two runs on nine hits while striking out five. Flyers starter Brett Harker (1-5) also put in a solid effort. In seven innings, the righty allowed just three runs on ten hits, struck out four and walked one.

Kansas City struck first in the fourth with two runs on a Jim Fasano fly ball to left and a Dwayne White double that plated Rico Washington.

But the Flyers struck back with a run in the fifth to cut the T-Bones advantage to one. After Terry Mermer flied out to center, Andre Marshall ripped a base hit up the middle and stole second. With two outs, Travis Brown laced the Cruse offering into right, scoring Marshall to put the Flyers on the board.

The T-Bones got one more in the sixth, but the Flyers weren't done. Brown tripled to deep right and Brandon Newton came through with a clutch two-out single over second base to plate the Schaumburg shortstop, cutting the Kansas City lead to 3-2.

That was all Schaumburg would get as Cruse came back out for the ninth and shut the Flyers down in order to pick up his fifth victory this season.

Cruse took the win while Harker was saddled with the loss.

The Flyers continue their series with the T-Bones to Alexian Field tomorrow night. It's Two for Tuesday, which means Miller and Pepsi products are just $2.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the T-Bones. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 6:50 PM with the game to follow.
