Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Schaumburg, IL - The Flyers (14-24) fought back to tie the game at 5-5 with a ninth inning rally, but eventually lost 9-5 in 11 innings to the T-Bones (23-16) at Alexian Field Tuesday night.

Schaumburg got out to an early lead with a run in the first when new addition Josh Burrus reached on a Jimmy Mojica error and stole second. The leadoff man advanced to third as catcher Eladio Rodriguez's throw sailed away to center field. Two batters later Burrus scored on Joey Gomes' 4-6-3 double play.

Kansas City owned the next few innings with a run in the second and two in the fourth on a Dwayne White home run over the right field fence and two more in the fifth. But the Flyers kept battling, pushing one across in the sixth and seventh to cut the deficit to 5-4.

Ryan Gehring (2-2) struggled in his third start, giving up five runs on ten hits with a walk. Brian McCullough, Joshua Giles, and Reid Price combined for a strong relief effort, keeping the T-Bones off the board in the final four innings of regulation.

The ninth began with Burrus' speed on full display. He made Jacob Blackwood rush the play on his ground ball, reaching first on an error. Burrus stole second and Travis Brown walked. Gomes put together a tough at bat against KC closer Franklin Perez and grounded out to first, advancing Burrus and Brown. Richard Mercado bounced out to short, scoring Burrus and tying the game at 5-5.

Both teams went down in order in the tenth, but the 11th belonged to Kansas City. The T-Bones put up four runs on five hits to put the game out of reach. The Flyers still have not beaten the T-Bones at Alexian Field yet this year.

Kansas City starter Reid Santos was impressive, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings.

Reid Price was saddled with the loss, while Drew Graham picked up the win.

The Flyers continue their four game set with the T-Bones at Alexian Field tomorrow. It's a special matinee at the ballpark and Bearon's birthday, so come out and celebrate with your favorite mascot!

First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the T-Bones. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 11:50 AM with the game to follow.
