Indiana Fever News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - Head Coach Brian Winters is expected to welcome about a dozen players to training camp Sunday morning in Conseco Fieldhouse, as the Indiana Fever conducts its first official workout of the 2006 season. The Fever opens a training camp that consists of seven returning players from last season's Eastern Conference finalists, in addition to 10 newcomers - mostly acquired through trades and free agency during a busy offseason.

Winters and his staff will carry an active roster of 11 players into its WNBA regular season opener, May 20, at home against the Detroit Shock (7:00 p.m.). The Fever will play two preseason games - May 6 at Charlotte (6:00 p.m.) and May 11 on its home floor against the Los Angeles Sparks (noon).

Among the returning Fever players are starters Tamika Catchings and Tully Bevilaqua, both of whom were named to the 2005 WNBA All-Defense First Team. Catchings, a four-year All-WNBA honoree, was named the WNBA's Defensive Player of the Year last season. Other key returnees include Ebony Hoffman and Tan White, the club's top draft picks from 2004 and 2005, respectively. They will be joined by the Fever's top draft pick in 2006 - La'Tangela Atkinson of North Carolina, who reports to her first WNBA training camp.

The Fever was among the most active franchises in the league this past offseason, bringing to camp eight new players via trade or free agency. Key among those are shooting guard Anna DeForge, acquired in a trade with Phoenix; power forward Tamika Whitmore, center Olympia Scott and combo forward Charlotte Smith. At least five camp participants - Catchings, DeForge, White, Whitmore and free agent forward Linda Fröhlich - will not report until after May 4, however, following the conclusion of European playoff series.

Single-game tickets for the Fever's 2006 season may be purchased at the Conseco Fieldhouse Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations including the Internet (Ticketmaster.com or ConsecoFieldhouse.com), or phone at (877) WNBA-TIX, in addition to select state-wide Marsh stores and Home Court II in Circle Centre Mall. For season ticket information, call (317) 917-2500.
